Harlow Town Reserves 2-5 Roydon FC – Report By Jake John Murphy/ @TheFogcast1
On Tuesday night, Division 4 side Roydon FC visited the Harlow Arena to face a team of Essex Senior League Reserve Division side Harlow Town Reserves which also consisted of a few trialists in their 2nd friendly of 2019/20 campaign.
The game started off with high intensity and pace from the young home side. But it would be Roydon who took the lead on the 3rd minute, Lewis Watson, who appeared offside, picked up the ball and loved the Harlow goalkeeper from just outside the area.
In the 14th minute, Harlow nearly equalised through spectacular fashion via the number #8 whose looping long range shot beat the keeper, before also hitting the crossbar. Harlow did find a breakthrough in the 18th minute after a low cross through the box was tapped in from close range from the hawks player.
Both sides continued to have a few half chances, notably Roydon with a free kick that resulted in a shot going well wide and Harlow having a chance that was blasted over the cross bar.
Roydon then retook the lead again in the 37th minute, however this time it was ruled out for offside much to the dismay of the Roydon players. Just three minutes later on the 40th minute, Roydon finally took the lead after an Ezra Folan cross was turned in via a Charlie Rider header.
Roydon started off the second half as they did the first, as Charlie Rider got his second of the night on the 48th minute, slotting home from a few yards. Despite the keeper getting a hand to the shot, it wasn’t enough to keep it out as Roydon went 3-1 up.
Roydon would extend their lead further on the 67th minute when a corner was met by a Harlow head who could only direct his defensive header on to the woodwork, resulting in Ross Bourke smashing home at the far post.
The game then had a bit of a quiet spell until the 85th minute when the Harlow number #7 beat his man and scored a fine goal in the bottom corner through a crowded box of players to pull one back for the Hawks.
However any chance of a Harlow comeback was short lived, just 60 seconds later, Roydon got their 5th of the evening after a fine run Jack Foot who slotted away through the keepers legs.
