Its that time of the year again when sides from all over the English football pyramid return to training and start playing friendlies as they look to get themselves in shape ahead of the new season. This weekend saw the official start of friendlies being played by our member sides and here is what happened yesterday…

AS Rawreth 0-2 Leigh Ramblers
Premier Division side Leigh Ramblers travelled to newly promoted Division 2 side AS Rawreth given their original friendly has been cancelled due to a late drop out. Goals from Justin Hazel and Joe Hunter secured a win for Wayne Seal’s side.
Bishops Stortford Swifts 1-6 Sandridge Rovers
Premier Division side Bishops Stortford Swifts ended up losing 6-1 to Herts County League Premier Division side Sandridge Rovers at Hatfield University.
Bowers & Pitsea U23’s vs Ongar Town
Division 1 side Ongar Town travelled to Isthmian Under 23 side Bowers & Pitsea Under 23’s for a friendly at The Len Salmon Stadium. The result isn’t known but apparently both teams had a great game.
Buckhurst Hill 3-0 Ilford FC
Reigning Premier Division champions Buckhurst Hill managed to secure a 3-0 victory over Essex Senior League side Ilford. Suley Zuhdu (x2) and Henry Clark scored the goals for Hill in what they said was a very good game to play.
Canning Town XI 2-0 Old Parmeterians
Premier Division side Canning Town defeated Amateur Football Combination side Old Parmeterians 2-0.
Chingford AFC 1-2 Buckhurst Hill Reserves
Division 1 side Chingford Athletic fell 2-1 to Division 3 side Buckhurst Hill Reserves. Chingford Our side was a mix between A , Development and Trial players
Lakeside 4-4 Shoebury Town
This all-Division 2 friendly finished 4-4. Lakeside’s goals were scored by Kemari, Olusanya, Demain and Davison.
Toby FC 0-2 Toby Reserves
Division 1 outfit Toby fell to a 2-0 defeat to their Division 3 reserves in an in-house friendly of which the first team consisted of trialists in the squad.
Rayleigh Town Reserves 5-0 Hullbridge Sports Development
Division 1 outfit Rayleigh Town Reserves managed to secure a 5-0 victory over Hullbridge Sports Development at James Hornsby School in their first game under the new management team of Lee Bunn and Dan Williams who joined from fellow member sides Westhamnians and Laindon Orient respectively during the summer. The goals were scored by Lake (x2), Lawrence, Creed and Rodney.
Sungate 2-6 Redbridge
Premier Division side Sungate fell 6-2 to Essex Senior League outfit Redbridge at Met Police Ground.
Wakebury 1-4 Roydon
Newly joined member side Wakebury of Division 3 fell 4-1 to Division 4 side Roydon at James Hornsby School. All of Roydon’s goals were scored from set pieces.
West Essex Reserves 3-2 Harold Wood Athletic Reserves
Wood’s Reserves fell to a 3-2 defeat in their opening pre-season friendly of the campaign to the Essex Alliance Premier Division side. Joe Pyne and Tom Lamb scored Wood’s Reserves.
Westhamnians 1-3 Redbridge Reserves
The newly-promoted Division 2 side started pre-season with a defeat to the Essex Senior League Reserve Division side at the Robert Clack 3G. Hamnians said: It was a hard game with plenty of good football on show.
