Saturday’s Friendlies Round-Up: Saturday 13th July

This weekend saw many more fixtures taking place involving our member sides. Here is what happened this weekend:

Basildon Town Reserves 4-1 Basildon United Under 18’s
Division 3 side Basildon Town Reserves managed a 4-1 victory over Basildon Under 18’s courtesy of an Alex Shields hat trick and one from Ben Robertson.

Basildon Town 11-2 Westhamnians
Premier Division side Basildon Town secured an 11-2 victory over Westhamnians who despite the final scoreline competed to the end which was to their credit. Town’s goals came from Brodie Horne who hit four, two each from Jamie Bradbourn , Alfie Phillips and Keith King and one from Lee Algar.

Buckhurst Hill 1-2 Takeley
Buckhurst Hill carried on their pre-season run of playing Essex Senior League sides by taking on Takeley in this most recent friendly. Hill went 1-0 down following a penalty being given after 25 minutes before creating 5/6 very good chances. Suley scored a wonder volley from the edge of area to make it 2-1 in what was a very good workout and great test for the Premier Division champions.

Catholic United 4-1 Waltham Abbey Reserves
Premier Division side Catholic United managed to secure a 4-1 victory over Waltham Abbey Reserves in the opening pre-season friendly with their goals coming from Dan Trenkel, Brad Vaughan, Tony Jacobs and Tom Hollingsworth.

Corinthians FC 3-1 Halstead Reserves
Newly promoted Division 2 side Corinthians welcomed Halstead Reserves to Stambridge Memorial Ground for their opening pre-season friendly of the 2019/20 campaign with a 3-1 victory. Their goals were scored by Wilton, Knight and Cooksley.

Chingford Development 5-2 Corinthians Reserves
Division 4 side Chingford Development managed a 5-2 victory over Division 3 side Corinthians Reserves.

Harold Wood Athletic Reserves 4-0 Toby FC
Division 2 side Harold Wood Athletic Reserves managed a 4-0 victory over Division 1 side Toby FC in what was a game full of decent football being played with many missed chances being made.

Harold Wood Athletic Development 1-2 Jolof Sports
Division 5 side Harold Wood Athletic Development lost 2-1 to Essex Alliance League side Jolof Sports in a close game with their goal coming from M Clutterbuck in what was a good run out for both sets of players with some pleasing football to watch.

Hutton FC 4-2 Rayleigh Town Reserves
Division 1 Rayleigh Town Reserves continued their preparations for the 2019/20 campaign with a trip to Hannakins Farm 3G to take on Hutton FC in a game which ended in a 4-2 defeat for them.

Islanders FC 2-3 Wakebury FC
Division 3 Wakebury travelled down to Canvey Island’s Waterside Farm managed a 3-2 victory over Mid-Essex League side Islanders FC in their 2nd pre-season friendly of the campaign. Grannel, Kateley and Buglione were the scorers for Matt Cardy’s side.

Lakeside 5-1 Canning Town
Division 1 side Lakeside managed a 5-1 victory over Premier Division side Canning Town. Lakeside’s goals were scored by Drew (x3), Mason (x1), Conner (x1).

Leigh Ramblers 3-2 St Margaretsbury
Premier Division side Leigh Ramblers welcomed Essex Senior League side St Margaretsbury with Ramblers gaffer Wayne Seal going up against former-Clapton FC management team colleague Jonny Fowell in the opposing dugouts for the first time since Seal’s departure from the East London club in August 2018. Ramblers managed a 3-2 win with Sam Mountstephens, Andrew Webster and Jamie Selby-Knight all managing to get on the scoresheet for the Premier outfit.

Leigh Town 4-1 Old Southendian Reserves
Leigh Town welcomed Old Southendian Reserves for their first friendly of the 2019/20 season with the two sides both having been promoted upto Division 2 since their last encounter last season. This encounter at Waterside Farm on Canvey Island finished in a 4-1 victory for the Towners with their scorers being Okyere (x2) alongside Raker and Robson.

Leigh Town Reserves 2-2 Runwell Trial XI
Robert Hutching-Spiller’s Leigh Town Reserve side carried on their pre-season preparations ahead of their new life in the Olympian league as they took on Runwell Sports for their 2nd friendly of the campaign. This encounter at Cornelius Vermuden School on Canvey Island ended in a 2-2 draw with Ben Forsyth and C Tyler scoring the Town Reserve side.

Ongar Town 4-4 Epping Town
Division 1 side Ongar Town continued their pre-season preparations with a visit from Epping Town of Division 2. This being Epping’s first pre-season fixture of the season given their original pre-season opener against Harlow Town Reserves was cancelled a few days prior to it taking place. Epping came from a goal behind to lead 4-1 before Ongar scored three times in the final 20 minutes to level the score. The goalscorers for Epping were Tommy Daltrey, Dave Watson, Eben Rowledge and Taner Dagyaran.

Rochford Town 0-1 Saffron Walden Town Reserves
Division 2 side Rochford Town managed a 1-0 defeat to Saffron Walden Town Reserves at Cupids Country Club.

Shoebury Town 1-5 Herongate FC
Division 1 side Shoebury Town hosted fellow Division 1 side Herongate FC with the visitors managing a 5-1 victory.

Tiptree Heath FC 1-1 Rayleigh Town
Thurstable School 3G
Premier Division side Rayleigh Town opened up their 2019/20 campaign with a trip to Tiptree’s Thurstable School to take on Tiptree Heath in a game which finished 1-1 where plenty of chances were created beyond the initial 1-1 scoreline.

Toby Reserves 12-0 Shoebury Town B
Division 3 side Toby managed a 12-0 win over Southend Borough Combination side Shoebury Town B. The goals were scored by Spanish (x5), Brown (x2), J Hales (x2), R Wilson (x2) and L Jones (x1).

Wakering Sports 3-4 Hullbridge Sports Reserves
Newly promoted Division 2 side Wakering Sports began life without Aaron Bloxham as manager at their Cupids Country Club home against Jason Davis’ Hullbridge Sports Reserves from the Essex Senior League Reserve Division with a 4-3 defeat in what was a game game for both sides.
